Start a session

A 5-minute hybrid meeting warm-up you can run today.

2 quick puzzles, 1 poll, and everyone answers together. Use your existing meeting chat, not another download.

This is a manual script, not a live icebreaker session. You can also start a free phone-game session from the navigation.

Before the timer starts

Keep the answers below off the shared screen until the reveal. Paste only the current prompt into chat. If someone cannot use chat, let them answer aloud after the shared reveal. Watching is always a valid choice. No names or personal answers need collecting.

0:00–0:30

Give everyone the same starting line

Connect the call before starting the room-side conversation. Share your screen and paste the prompts into the meeting chat.

Say: “We have 5 min before the agenda. Play or watch; either is fine. Cameras can stay off.”

Read each prompt aloud too. Enable meeting captions if available. Check that remote colleagues can see the chat before continuing.

0:30–2:00

Solve one quick puzzle

Show: “Which word connects these 3 clues: piano, door, map?” Ask everyone to think quietly, without sending their answer yet.

After 45 s, say “Send”. Everyone posts together in chat, including people in the room. This avoids the fastest voice taking over.

Reveal: “Key: a piano key, a door key, a map key.” Accept equivalent answers. Give everyone who solved it 1 point, kept privately.

2:00–3:30

Pick a side without sharing anything personal

Ask: “For our next meeting, would you choose a puzzle or a quick poll?” Use P for puzzle and Q for poll.

Let everyone send together again. Count the preferences aloud so remote participants hear the result. There is no right answer and no score.

Invite 1 volunteer from each side to explain their choice in 1 sentence. Skip explanations if nobody volunteers. Do not call on anyone who passed.

3:30–5:00

Finish together, then hand back the meeting

Show a second puzzle: “What comes next: 2, 4, 8, 16?” Give everyone 30 s, then ask for answers together.

Reveal 32: each number doubles. Award 1 more private point. Invite people to share their total if they want; ties stay ties.

Close with: “Team warmed up. Over to the agenda.” Stop at 5 min, even if you skip the optional discussion. Never single out a low score.

When you want the shared podium

This manual version uses chat and private scores. It does not create a live ranking or remember previous puzzles. The planned icebreaker session brings those pieces onto phones through a shared QR code. See the planned offer and the sample podium before deciding whether it fits your team.

Tried it with your team?
